Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 17, 2026
GearShot ("we," "us," "GearShot") operates gearshot.ai. This page explains what information the site collects, how it's used, and what rights you have over it. GearShot is currently operated as an independent project; this policy will be updated to reflect the incorporated legal entity name once that step is complete.
What we collect
When you use the GearShot advisor, your answers (what you create, your budget, experience level, and region) are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a recommendation, and the result is stored temporarily in your browser's session storage so it displays on the results page. This data is not saved on our servers, and it is cleared automatically when you close your browser tab or start a new session. We do not currently require an account, login, or email address to use the advisor.
Our hosting provider (Vercel) automatically logs standard technical information for every website visit, such as IP address, browser type, and timestamp, as is standard for any website.
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use this site — which pages are viewed, how long visits last, and what general region or device type traffic comes from. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to track page views and sessions across your visit. We do not use this data to identify you individually, and we don't combine it with the questionnaire answers you enter in the advisor. See Google's own privacy policy for how they handle this data.
Third parties this data touches
- Anthropic (Claude API): processes your questionnaire answers to generate a recommendation. Anthropic's own privacy terms govern how they handle API requests.
- Vercel: hosts this website and its standard server logs.
- Google Analytics: receives page-view and session data via cookies to help us understand site traffic. Google's own privacy policy governs how they handle this data.
- Amazon, B&H Photo, DJI, and other retailers we link to: if you click a product link and visit their site, their own cookies and tracking apply, not ours. See our disclosure page for the full list of affiliate relationships.
Your rights
Because we don't currently store personal data on our own servers beyond standard hosting logs, there is generally nothing tied to you personally for us to access, correct, or delete on request. If you believe we're holding information about you and want it reviewed, removed, or explained, contact us at hello@gearshot.ai and we'll respond within a reasonable time, generally within 30 days.
Children's privacy
GearShot is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we add features that change what data we collect (accounts, email capture, analytics, saved recommendations), we'll update this page and note the change date above.
